May the Ocean Eat Us

a slap to the face
a mark on my skin
his hand shaped his hatred
he counted off my sins

Finger by finger
Disgrace by disgrace
The bruise a bitter reminder
I was never quite in place

out of the blue
into the bluer
may the ocean eat us
And may the land forget us

I thought I saw God
but it was a burning, blinding light
He must’ve dropped something
while he was making up His mind

On whether to save me
or grant my only wish
a catch 22 it is
how life can be so vicious

out of the blue
into the bluer
I guess this is where He meets us
so may the ocean eat us

out of the sea
and into the sky
may I live a thousand more lives
and may I always die
