The Abominable Snowman

the snow was welcome warmth
when I was tired of my growth
the outside is a friend
not a foe as I was always warned

gently as it sways
I find myself swaying too
carried by the wind into places once out of view

this place froze over
I was already so cold
following the footprints
that opened the ice to the dirt below

the abominable snowman
sang me to sleep in his cave
where all the “evil” things
gathered together and they prayed

gently as he combs my hair
I start dozing off
dreaming of other monsters
dancing and playing hopscotch

I found a monster
but I’m not scared like I should be
is this the real world
is this the real world

and those teeth are sharp
but they’ve only ever smiled at me
and that’s more than a lot can say
I’ve gotten wounds from duller teeth

who am I?
and who were you supposed to be
not my defender
just my captor in your defeat
oh what those monsters could do to me
oh how did you ever cut so deep
how did you ever cut so deep
how did you ever get to sleep
